IEEE MOVE Interested Group Form

Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/407879

We are delighted with your interest in joining the IEEE MOVE Community Outreach initiative. The MOVE program is looking for qualified volunteers who not only have a deep passion for humanitarian work but also the expertise, wisdom and time to commit in support of the program. We are currently seeking candidates for leadership positions of committees and working groups for our global program expansion. Currently we are looking for volunteers in support of our programs in Puerto Rico. We realize that few people have the ability to extensively volunteer to a program such as ours. It is through the diverse efforts of committee members, each contribution their time and resources as they are able, in a combined effort that allows us to address the many programmatic needs. Information you provide will allow us to appreciate your talents and time so we can best engage you in the program. For more information, you can visit the (https://move.ieee.org/) webpage. Thank you! Co-sponsored by: IEEE MOVE Puerto Rico Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/407879

Smart antenna array system for the supervision of electric power distribution switches.

DES-CTG-UFPE, RECIFE, Pernambuco, Brazil, 50.740-550

Smart antenna arrays are currently an integral part of cellular telecommunications systems, whether in switched or adaptive modes. This technique, in switched mode, has also been used, on an experimental basis, by researchers from the Microwave group at Dep. of Electronics and Systems at UFPE to supervise remote devices around a radio base station. The devices may be electricity distribution switches, for example, which are currently monitored by electricity distribution companies using vertical arrays of folded dipoles installed in their substations. The replacement of dipole arrays by intelligent arrays increases the capacity of the system supervision. This lecture describes its operation with smart antenna arrays and presents experimental results of a pilot system installed in a substation of an electricity distribution company (Neoenergia). Coplanar Waveguide Sensor for Dimethyl Methyphonate Gas Detection at Microwave

DES-CTG-UFPE, RECIFE, Pernambuco, Brazil, 50.740-550

Co-sponsored by: University of Ulster - UK Speaker(s): Jorge Araújo , DES-CTG-UFPE, RECIFE, Pernambuco, Brazil, 50.740-550

The Soil Electrical Parameters and the Power Line Communications

DES-CTG-UFPE, RECIFE, Pernambuco, Brazil, 50.740-550

Power Line Communications (PLC Systems) represent an alternative for isolated or remote areas where the installation of a communication route would be infeasible. Through the existing power network, the generated PLC signal makes use of the power cables as a path of propagation. However, due the influence of the soil in the phenomenon of signal propagation, it is essential to consider the effects of soil electrical parameters for the operating frequency of the channel. Therefore, the objective of this presentation is proposing a model, based on laboratory measurements, to obtain the soil electrical parameters as a function of Frequency. Plasmonic nanoplatforms for biosensing: small solutions to big problems

Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, Campina Grande, Pernambuco, Brazil, 50.740-550

Due to exceptional optical absorption properties, metallic nanoparticles have gained significant attention as advanced materials in the medical field, particularly in applications like optical therapy and diagnostic techniques. Gold and silver nanospheres offer a promising starting point for the development of high-performance optical biosensors, providing a foundation for innovative advancements in sensor technology. In this presentation the interaction of light with metallic nanoparticles will be described, and the use of plasmonic nanostructures on medical diagnosis will be reveled.
