IEEE PES DAY 2025: Design Optimization and Validation of a Bi-Directional Charging Circuit for Micro E-Mobility System Supporting Health Facilities Electrification.

Barranquilla, Atlantico, Colombia

This thesis supports the Clinic Electrification Project in the Tezhumke Wiwa indigenous community in Colombia, aiming to improve healthcare access through off-grid renewable energy. A key component of the project is the integration of e-bikes, which serve both as a flexible mode of medicine delivery and as mobile energy storage to support health facility power reliability. Federico Sartore's work focuses on designing and optimizing a bi-directional charging circuit for these e-bikes. Despite extensive research on large EV battery systems, small-scale bidirectional charging solutions for e-bikes remain underexplored. Building on a prototype developed by Universidad del Norte, this thesis aims to integrate the system’s AC/DC inverter and DC/DC converter into a reliable boost-buck topology with optimized control.
