ETHICS COMPETITION
The Ethics Competition is organized by the XXIX SBRM 2026 through its Ethics Committee. It challenges IEEE students to analyze real-world ethical dilemmas within the fields of engineering and technology.
The Challenge
- Study Objective: Promoting professional ethics, responsible decision-making, and awareness of the social impact of technology.
- Team Structure: Work must be performed in teams composed of 3 to 5 IEEE Region 9 students.
Competition Dynamics
- Case Study: Teams are provided with a scenario involving an ethical dilemma in areas such as AI, data privacy, sustainability, or social responsibility.
- Analysis: Teams must identify the core dilemma, detect ethical conflicts, and analyze involved stakeholders using multidisciplinary perspectives.
- Ethical Framework: Key use of the IEEE Code of Ethics to justify decisions regarding public safety, honesty, and privacy.
- Proposal: Teams must present a clear, viable solution with solid arguments and an analysis of possible consequences.
Evaluation Criteria
Teams will be judged based on the following professional standards:
- Depth of the ethical analysis and correct use of the IEEE Code of Ethics.
- Clarity of argumentation and the ability to defend ideas under pressure.
- Creativity in the proposed solution balanced with technical realism.
