Artificial intelligence, abbreviated AI, in a video game, refers to the techniques used in computers and video games to produce the illusion of intelligence in the behavior of non-player characters (NPCs). It is an electronic agent that can think, evaluate and act on certain principles of optimization and consistency to meet a goal or purpose.

Because AI focuses on the intelligence aspect and good gameplay, its approach is very different from that of traditional AI.

AI is used in a wide variety of fields within a game.
