Juan Pablo is currently the Director of Software Development at Oracle’s Mexico Development Center responsible for development teams in the areas of Query service, Distributed SQL Generation, Parallel query execution, Heterogeneous Distributed Data access, PL/SQL programming language, the Oracle enterprise Job scheduler, Big Data SQL, Cloud SQL, and Data Lake Accelerator, which allows high performance, distributed, highly parallel, transparent and simultaneous query of data in Cloud Object Stores, Big Data Hadoop Clusters, and Relational Database systems.
Juan Pablo grew up in Panama, studied at the University of Pennsylvania, and joined Oracle in 2001 as part of the development team of the Oracle Database Kernel, where he designed and built the current architecture of the Oracle Database Gateway products for Heterogeneous Distributed data access. In 2010, Juan Pablo transitioned into a management role and is one of the founding members of the Oracle Mexico Development Center.

In this talk, we’ll cover how entrepreneurship can exist, thrive and be key element for success within a large company. Through the story of its creation, early stages, and growth, we’ll cover how entrepreneurship has played a key role in the building of the Oracle Mexico Development Center (MDC). As one of its founders, Juan Pablo will present the impact that an entrepreneurship mind set, soft skills, ownership, taking personal responsibility, focusing on the big picture, and building a great team have had in the center’s success and growth.
