CASS RJ Chapter Lecture: Integrated Circuit Design for Implantable Medical Devices

11/05/2022 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm UTC

Abstract: Implantable medical devices (IMD) have evolved from the first simple pacemaker to a grand number of different devices to treat several different pathologies, especially in the last few decades. The special requirements of the IMD, in terms of safety, consumption and reliability among others, impact the electrical design of the integrated circuits used in these applications. In this talk, the different requirements will be analyzed, some examples of analog design used in IMD will be presented and generally, what are the challenges for the designer when working in IMD will be addressed. Short CV: Matías R. Miguez, received his PhD degree in 2017 from Universidad Nacional del Sur, Bahia Blanca, Argentina MSc and Graduate degree in Electronics Engineering from the Universidad Católica, Montevideo Uruguay in 2008 and 2005 respectively. He has also received a Graduate degree in Physics from the Universidad de la República, also in Montevideo, Uruguay in 2007. In 2005, he joined the Electrical Engineering Department, Universidad Católica, Montevideo, Uruguay, where he is an Associate Professor. Since 2005 he has been involved in research projects in the field of CMOS analog design, MOS transistor modeling and IoT applications for agribusiness. In 2010 he co-founded Chipmate, a company for the development of ASICs for medical devices, and in 2018 founded ABM, a consulting company in microelectronics and embedded systems design. He has worked in microelectronics projects for Uruguay, India, Canada and Belgium. Speaker(s): Matías R. Miguez, Room: Sala 312, Cidade Universitária, Centro de Tecnologia da UFRJ , Bloco H, Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
